Heart-Shaped Egg in the Hole

Here's a present you know Mom will love -- breakfast in bed with a surprise, a heart-shaped egg in the hole.  Serve it with a flavored bacon from one of our meat vendors and jam from Mema’s.  Shop the Market for an artisan bread to make it extra special for your extra special Mom.

  1. Using a cookie cutter or a knife, cut out a small heart shape from the center of a thick slice of bread. Spread each side of bread with butter.  Make it an herb butter by adding fresh herbs or a spice blend from Wild Tree.
  2. Heat skillet over medium heat. Saute bread until golden, 2 to 3 minutes. Lower heat, and gently flip toast.
  3. Break an egg into heart-shaped hole. Cover, and cook until egg white turns opaque, about 5 minutes.
  4. Transfer to a plate along with the heart-shaped piece of cutout bread, perfect for dipping into yolk.
